Matthew Nall

Growing up in California and inspired by the work of Ansel Adams, Matthew made his first photographs in Yosemite National Park at the age of 11 years old, "I still remember the elation I experienced when my first prints came back - I had fallen in love. Even at that young age I knew I had experienced something special. I had found a language, a way of telling stories and expressing the beauty I witnessed in nature. I could say things with photographs that I had no words for."

Later, Matthew attended the art program at California State University where he deepened in his technical and compositional proficiency. He also worked at a local camera store and formed relationships with a community of professional photographers in Los Angeles. It was during this time that he understanding of techniques and tools developed and his photography began to flourish... "I was a professional, photographing weddings in California at the age of 24. During this time I was also assisting some of the top professionals in the commercial field. I learned so much from these these mentors and from those real-world experiences. It was here that I really began to see photography as a life long career."

In 2010, a life changing opportunity came when Canon USA hired Matthew to be a ambassador for the company. "I was traveling across the United States teaching photography workshops and giving lectures for audiences in Yosemite , Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and other National Parks across the US. It was a dream job - I was getting to shoot everyday in beautiful places and share my passion for LIGHT and LAND with people from all over the world."

In 2011, a fateful turn of events would change Matthew's course once again. "It was the Fukashima Earthquake... the same one that sent a tsunami to Hawaii and caused a nuclear meltdown in Japan. The earthquake caused Canon to shut down their production facility and they had to end our program. My future was suddenly wide open... and Hawai'i was calling."

In 2011, Matthew arrived on Maui with a suitcase, a guitar and a camera bag. In no time at all he was working as an art consultant at Paia Contemporary Gallery and leading photography workshops on behalf of Photo Safari Hawaii. In his time off, Matthew worked at creating a new portfolio of work and started Maui Creative Photography to service the Hawaiian Islands with high quality, vibrant wedding and portrait photography. His work was well received and soon he would leave his positions to work full time as a photographer on Maui and throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

Over the last 10 years, Matthew has photographed hundreds of weddings, families and couples from all over the world. During this time, he has also continued creating artwork depicting the unique beauty, energy and vibrancy of Hawai'i. Now in 2021, these fine art photographs are available for the first time as wall art and fine art prints. Matthew Nall Fine Art was born.
